Hyderabad Metro Rail Project Updates

L&T Hyderabad Metro Rail Ltd, the special purpose vehicle implementing the elevated metro project, will begin works on girders from Sunday.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy will start the hydraulic cranes for launching girders on the metro rail pillars. Incidentally, the Chief Minister completes two years in office on Sunday.

The entire stretch of 72 km of metro rail viaduct is being implemented in precast segmental construction method to minimise the usage of road space and limit the inconvenience to road users during the construction works.

Briefing newspersons at Metro Bhavan, N.V.S. Reddy, Managing Director of Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited, said 60 per cent of the metro rail works will be executed through precast blocks and over 70 per cent of the station buildings blocks will be precast and shifted.
It not only helps speed up execution of works but also minimises inconvenience where works are being executed.

About 900 segments each weighing about 34 tons have already been precast and stacked at the massive Uppal precast yard. Every day about 10 segments are being cast. These segments will be shifted during night time on low bedded trailers.
The box type iron launching girder which will be about 34 meters (112 feet) and weighing 300 tons will be first erected on top of two pillars under stringent safety and quality norms. Lifting of launching girders modules will be done with two hydraulic cranes of up to 150 tons each. All such works will be handled during night.

RING ROAD
The Chief Minister will also lay the foundation stone for the metro yard and radial road. Such radial roads will help link up with the outer ring road at various points in the city providing easy access to highways. This is also aimed at developing infrastructure along these roads.

Hyderabad Metro Rail is a fully automated rapid transit system, currently under construction, for the city of Hyderabad, India.[3] It is being implemented entirely on PPP mode, with the state government holding a minority equity stake[4]

The Phase I of the project includes 3 lines covering a distance of around 71 km. The metro rail stretches between Nagole and Mettuguda (8 km) and between Miyapur and S. R. Nagar (12 km) are targeted to be operational by March 2015 as Ugadi gift.[5][6] In September 2012, the Indian government has approved Phase II which is expected to start in 2013. It includes around 80 kilometers.[7]

Hyderabad Metro Rail project has been selected as one of the top 100 strategic global infrastructure projects to be showcased at the forthcoming Global Infrastructure Leadership Forum being held in New York during February–March, 2013.[8][9]

The HMR project is considered to be the world’s largest project under public-private partnership, with investments of over Rs 17,000 Crore.
